 Formula One is a really fast and exciting type of car racing. It is the highest level of racing in the world and has been taking place since 1950. All cars have to follow the same rules. Their races take place in many different countries and may take place on special racetracks or on normal roads that are closed off just for the race. In Grand Prix, they use a points system to decide who wins the major championship. There are two championships: one for drivers and one for teams. To be able to race, drivers need a special license called a super license. And the race can only take place on a really good track that has got the highest rating from the racing authority. Formula One cars are really fast because they can go really fast. They have special wings that help them go even faster, but these wings also create a lot of wind which makes it difficult for other cars to pass them. To make it easier for the cars to pass each other, they are changing the design of the cars in 2022. Cars also have a lot of fancy technology that helps them drive better, but some of these things are no longer allowed because they make the race unfair. Formula One is a really expensive sport that involves building and racing cars. Running a team costs a lot of money, including paying the people who work on the cars and driving them to the races. People who have this game have recently bought it for a huge amount.



History

Formula One is a type of car racing that started a long time ago in Europe. There is a set of rules that all cars have to follow. The first Formula One race took place in 1946. Before then, there were other races, but they did not have an official championship. In 1950, the first race to select the best race car driver in the world took place in Britain. A driver named Giuseppe Farina won the race by a narrow margin, defeating his teammate Juan Manuel Fangio. Fangio won championships in 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956, and 1957, more than anyone else had ever won before. This record stood for 46 years until another driver, Michael Schumacher, won the championship six times in 2003.

In the 1958 season, they added a special award for the best team in Formula One racing. Even though Stirling Moss was a really good driver in the 1950s and 1960s, he never won a major championship. He came second four times and third three times. Another driver named Fangio won a lot of races and holds the record for most race wins of any driver. In the 1960s and 1970s, special championships were also held in South Africa and the UK. Some races that did not count towards the major championship were organized by different people, but they stopped doing those races in 1983 because it became too expensive.

During this time, there were teams that were managed by car companies such as Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati. In the first season, they used pre-war cars called Alfa K158. The engines of these cars were in the front and the tires were thin. Some had supercharged engines and others had naturally aspirated engines. Since there were not many Formula One cars available, races were held with smaller and less powerful cars using Formula Two rules in 1952 and 1953. In 1954, a new Formula One formula was introduced, which limited engine size to 2.5 litres. Mercedes-Benz then created its W196 car, which had new features such as special valves, fuel injection and a covered body that had never been seen before in Formula One. Mercedes drivers won the championship for the next two years, but then the team stopped participating in races after a tragic accident at the Le Mans race in 1955.

Technological developments

Bugatti was the first company to produce a special type of car for racing called a mid-engine car. A driver named Jack Brabham showed that these cars were superior to other cars. Therefore, all racing teams started using mid-engined cars. But there was one last front-engined car that was used in a major race in 1961. It was the only such car that year. In 1962, Lotus created a new kind of car that was truly special. Instead of using the regular type of frame, they used a special type of monocoque chassis made from aluminum sheet. This was a big deal because it was a big change in the way cars were generally made. It was a really important discovery, just like when people first made mid-engined cars.
In 1968, a way for companies to support sports teams was invented. The first team to have their cars sponsored by a company was Team Gunston, who hired cigarette company Gunston to sponsor their cars at the 1968 South African Grand Prix. They painted their cars the color of Gunston cigarettes. A few months later, Lotus became the first official team to do the same, with the cigarette company Imperial Tobacco sponsoring their cars at the 1968 Spanish Grand Prix. They painted their cars the color of Gold Leaf, another cigarette brand.

Aerofoils began to be used in 1968 to help cars go faster and hold onto the road better. Then in the late 1970s, Lotus created a new type of aerodynamics called ground-effect, which made the cars even faster around corners. The force pushing the cars down onto the track was very strong indeed – up to five times the car's weight! Because of this, the cars needed really stiff springs to stay at the right height. This made the suspension feel really stiff, and drivers had to rely heavily on their tires to keep them safe from bumps in the road.


Big business

A long time ago, a man named Bernie Ecclestone changed the way Formula One racing was done. He made it a really big and successful business. When he bought a racing team, he also had to be in charge of the group that made important decisions for Formula One. Before Bernie, the people who owned racetracks controlled how much money the teams made and negotiated with each team separately. But Bernie convinces the teams to work together and offers the racetrack owners a deal. They could have all the Formula One, but they had to get rid of the advertising signs near the track. In 1979, a group called FISA was created to monitor car racing. However, he had disagreements with another group called FOCA over television money and the rules of the race. The two groups debated heavily and even threatened to start their own separate racing series. Eventually, in 1981 they agreed to some rules to make things more fair. FISA still had control over TV money, but FOCA was allowed to take over.

In 1983, a rule called FISA stated that cars could not have a certain type of aerodynamics called ground-effect. But at the time, cars were using turbocharged engines, which made them go really fast. In 1986, a car with a BMW turbocharged engine was able to go even faster because of the much higher pressure inside its engine. The following year, the cars became even more powerful, but had to limit downforce. These cars were the fastest cars ever built for racing. To make the cars slower, they put in place rules that limited how much fuel the cars could carry in 1984, and in 1988 the pressure was reduced. Ultimately, in 1989, he stated that the cars could no longer use turbocharged engines. The teams agreed to a special agreement called the Concorde Agreement. They agreed to it again in 1992 and then agreed for a third time in 1997. During the 1980s and 1990s, two teams called McLaren and Williams were really good at racing. Another team called Brabham was also really good in the early 1980s. With engines from Porsche, Honda and Mercedes-Benz, McLaren won numerous championships. Williams also won several championships with engines from Ford, Honda and Renault. There were two racers named Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost who were big rivals and people loved to watch them race. Sadly, Senna died in a crash during a race in 1994, and another racer named Roland Ratzenberger also died during a race that same weekend. After that, the people overseeing the races worked really hard to make sure the drivers were safe. No drivers died from a crash for 20 years, but in 2014, a racer named Jules Bianchi had a bad accident and died from his injuries. Three track marshals who have helped during the race since 1994 have also died. Since two drivers, Senna and Ratzenberger, died, the FIA decided to make some changes to keep everyone safe. Normally, all teams would have to agree to these changes, but because safety was so important, the FIA made them anyway. These changes included making the tires of the cars smaller and making the cars narrower. They also added grooves to the tires to reduce their grip on the track. This was done to make the cars go slower on turns, such as when it was raining outside. The FIA said this will help keep everyone safe.

The results were mixed as the cars did not have good grip, so designers had to come up with clever ways to stick the cars to the track. They used things like wings and other aerodynamic parts to push the car over the tires. But these particles also polluted the air behind the car, making it difficult for other cars to drive past. Tires were also a problem as they were too hard and caused major accidents when the aerodynamic grip did not work well. From 1984 to 2008, some of the very best drivers from McLaren, Williams, Renault and Ferrari all won championships in Formula One racing. These teams were also really good at winning team championships. Between 1989 and 1997, these four teams always finished in the top four and won almost every race. But because racing became more expensive in the 1990s and these big teams received a lot of money from the car companies, the smaller teams had difficulty staying afloat. Many of these smaller teams had to stop racing because they could no longer afford it.

Manufactures's return

Michael Schumacher and Ferrari were really good at car racing and won multiple championships five years in a row. Schumacher broke many records for winning races and being the best driver. But eventually, another driver named Fernando Alonso became the champion and Schumacher's winning streak came to an end. Schumacher retired but then returned to racing for a different team.

Meanwhile, the people in charge of the racing championship kept changing the rules to make the races more exciting and to save money. He stopped the teams from telling their drivers what to do during the race because some teams were cheating and this was causing problems. They also changed how they decided who got points and made rules about how long tires and engines had to last. There was a great competition between the two tire companies, but in one race, some teams could not run because their tires were not safe. After that, only one tire company was allowed to provide tires for the race.

In 2006, Max Mosley talked about how Formula One racing could be made more environmentally friendly by using energy more efficiently.

In the year 2000, a car company called Ford purchased another car company called Stewart Grand Prix. He formed a new team for a car racing competition called Formula One. It was the first time in a long time that a car company owned a team in Formula One. Before then, only a few car companies were doing well in the competition. But now, with the new teams, those car companies began to dominate the competition even more. He won a lot of races and gained high rankings in the competition. The only team to perform well even without car company ownership was McLaren, which was partly owned by Mercedes-Benz. Car companies also came together to form a group called the Grand Prix Manufacturers Association. They wanted more control over money and the running of the game.

Manufacturers' decline and return of the privateers

In 2008 and 2009, some car companies such as Honda, BMW and Toyota stopped participating in Formula One racing due to money problems. This means that he is no longer the best in the game. The Honda F1 team was taken over by new owners and became Brawn GP. They had to lay off several workers, but eventually won the championship that year. BMW F1 was bought by its original founder, Peter Sauber. The Lotus F1 team has also changed ownership and is now owned by various investors. Even though they have new owners, their cars will still use Renault engines until 2014.

McLaren and Mercedes used to be partners, but they had some problems. They worked together on a car called the McLaren Mercedes SLR, but it didn't go too well. He also had a tough time in a major racing event and got in trouble for spying on the other team (Ferrari). Because of all these problems, they decided to go their separate ways. Mercedes decided to start their own racing team by buying another team called Brawn GP. This happened in 2010 after 15 years with McLaren.

During the 2009 season of Formula One, there was a major dispute between the organizers of the races and the teams competing in them. The person in charge of Formula One wanted teams to spend less money, so he suggested a rule where some teams could choose to spend less money and have more freedom to design their cars. But the teams did not like the idea because they felt it would make the races unfair. They tried to talk to the person in charge, but they couldn't agree on a solution. Therefore, most teams decided to start their own championship series instead.
On June 24, the people in charge of Formula One and the racing teams reached an agreement so that there would be no separate racing series. He said teams would have to spend less money, but did not say how much. The man in charge, Max Mosley, said he would no longer be in charge. But then there were more debates and Max Mosley said that after all he could remain in charge. Racing teams said they could split off and have their own series. On July 8, racing teams said they were not allowed to participate in next year's race. He said he left the meeting because he was mad. But then on August 1 they said they had made a new agreement and everything was fine again.

To compensate for the departure of some teams, four new teams joined Formula One in 2010. These teams were Team Lotus, Hispania Racing, Virgin Racing and US F1. They did not have as much money as other teams and had to struggle to survive. Eventually, he had to stop the race. The HRT closed in 2012, the Caterham in 2014 and the Manor in 2016.
